Vasco coach becomes eighth sacking of season

Reuters - Friday 26 March 2010, 03:18

RIO DE JANEIRO - Vasco da Gama's Vagner Mancini became the eighth coach from the 20 teams in Brazil's top flight to be sacked this year after they lost to Americano in the Carioca championship.

Wednesday's 3-2 home defeat was the third in a row in the Rio state championship for Vasco, South American champions in 1998, who were promoted back to the first division last year.

Brazil's 27 state championships precede the Brazilian national championship that begins in May but goes into recess for the June 11-July 11 World Cup finals in South Africa before resuming in mid-July.
