Zokora switch hangs in balance

442 Staff - Wednesday 01 July 2009, 16:37

Sevilla president Jose Maria Del Nido has revealed that the Andalucían outfit will have to off-load players before they can bring in any new recruits to the Sanchez Pizjuan this summer.

The la Liga outfit, who finished third behind Barcelona and Real Madrid in 2008/09, have been linked with a move for Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Didier Zokora during the close-season.

However, any deal for the Ivory Coast international now appears to be hinging on whether Sevilla can successfully sell at least four players deemed surplus to requirements, with Aquivaldo Mosquera and Morgan De Sanctis expected to be heading for the Andalucians' exit door.

“We have a lot of money in the four or five players that we are trying to find a transfer for," Del Nido told AS.

"Everyone just has to stay calm.”

Spurs' Premier League rivals Sunderland are still believed to be keen on signing the former St Etienne man.

If the clubs can reach an agreement, Zokora - who has made 87 league appearances for the White Hart Lane outfit since arriving in 2006 - will become the fifth Tottenham player to sign for the Black Cats in the past 12 months, following Pascal Chimbonda, Steed Malbranque, Teemu Tainio and Andy Reid.
