English snubbed again as Villa prefers Barça

David Villa looks certain to move this summer – but only to Barcelona, rather than the Premier League.

The Valencia striker held secret talks with Barcelona’s technical director Txiki Begiristain, and apparently said “I only want to go to Barça.”

Villa has been courted by a host of European clubs this summer, including Chelsea, Liverpool and Manchester City. However, he has never seemed particularly keen on leaving Spain and his reported comments could close the door on a move to England – on the day Franck Ribery disappointed suitors Chelsea and Manchester United by declaring "I want to leave, it will be Real [Madrid] or nothing."

Begiristain is believed to have met Villa – and his agent, Jose Luis Tamargo – in his home region of Asturias this week to discuss a potential move to the Camp Nou.

“We are going for everything,” Begiristain told Catalan newspaper Mundo Deportivo. "We will do everything that we can to ensure that you play for us next season."

Villa, aged 27, has scored 87 times in 129 outings for Los Che.
