Fenerbahce ready approach for Robben

442 Staff - Thursday 23 July 2009, 23:16

Fenerbahce are preparing a record €25 million bid for Real Madrid winger Arjen Robben, according to reports in the Turkish media.

The 25-year-old has made 50 league appearances for the Bernabeu outfit - scoring 11 times - since arriving from Chelsea in 2007.

However, the Dutchman's future in the Spanish capital - along with several of his fellow countrymen including Klaas-Jan Huntelaar and Ruud van Nistelrooy - has been cast into doubt following the return of former president Florentino Perez, who has already splashed more than €200 million on stellar signings including Kaka, Cristiano Ronaldo and Karim Benzema.

Tottenham Hotspur and Manchester City have been linked with bringing the former PSV star back to England ahead of the 2009/10 campaign.

And although Robben, who has made 42 outings for his country, has previously insisted that he wishes to stay in Madrid, Fenerbahce's mega-money offer could twist the Madridistas' arm, who are keen to recoup some cash following their summer spending spree.

Should Fenerbahce succeed, Robben would become the most expensive signing in Turkish history, after the same club signed Daniel Guiza from Real Mallorca for €17 million last summer.
