Sevilla duo to sit out Valencia clash

Reuters - Saturday 29 August 2009, 11:57

MADRID - Brazilian midfield pair Adriano Correia and Renato have not recovered from injury in time to make Sevilla's opening La Liga match at Valencia on Sunday, coach Manolo Jimenez said.

"Losing two players like Adriano and Renato has disrupted my plans," Jimenez said at a news conference on Saturday, adding that the poor state of the pitch at Valencia's Mestalla stadium was also a concern.

"We are two of the candidates potentially able to show that there is more to (La Liga) than Real Madrid and Barcelona but possibly this match has come around a little too soon and on a pitch that is not the best," he said.
