New York

FIVE UNMISSABLE NYC EXPERIENCES

WATCH US SPORT LIVE
Despite the Red Bulls’ presence, Giants Stadium is, primarily, an NFL stadium, where the New York Jets as well as the Giants play their home games. On the same complex is the Continental Airlines Arena, home of the NBA’s New Jersey Nets. The New York Knicks, meanwhile, play at Manhattan’s world-famous Madison Square Garden, while New York’s two baseball teams, the Yankees and the Mets, play at Yankees Stadium and Shea Stadium respectively.

SCALE THE EMPIRE STATE BUILDING
Rather than going the King Kong route, take the lift to the 86th-floor observatory, preferably in late afternoon during the week, when the crowds are small and the sight of the sun setting (on a clear day) behind the Manhattan skyline is spectacular.

LOSE YOURSELF IN CENTRAL PARK
A dramatic yet tranquil green haven set slap bang in the middle of the world’s ultimate modern metropolis. There’s lots to do among the park’s lakes, forests and flower beds – John Lennon’s memorial at Strawberry Fields, the conservatory garden, the zoo – although equally enjoyable is doing absolutely nothing.

TAKE A BOAT TRIP
One of the best ways to view the Big Apple and its famous skyline, not to mention the only affordable way to visit Liberty Island and its statue, America’s most famous landmark. Ferries run every half an hour daily and offer fantastic views of New York’s harbour and the Brooklyn Bridge.

ENJOY THE NIGHTLIFE IN THE CITY THAT NEVER SLEEPS
Forget shopping, this is the part of Sex And The City you really want to experience. Bars get going late and stay open even later and there’s something to suit everybody’s tastes. Some of the best hunting grounds include the East and West Village, Nolita and SoHo, with several new venues also opened in the Chelsea area. Thankfully, sightings of Lamps and JT are rare.
