Tight-fit can feel restrictive

Expertly designed using the brand's latest technologies, the Nike Pro Dri-Fit Long Sleeve base layer can offer all sorts of benefits to enhance your playing experience in both hot and cold temperatures. From regulating body temperature, wicking away sweat and improving blood flow, this base layer is the ideal companion to wear under your jersey.

There's plenty of colors to choose from, too, with sleeve lengths also customisable. I personally play for a team whose home jersey is white, which Nike has fortunately accounted for with its extensive options. When paired with the best Nike soccer cleats, you'll look a million bucks on the field.

But while plenty of players enjoy playing in base layers, I also find them a great option to aid recovery. The compression fit improves blood flow and oxygen intake, providing your muscles with the energy they need to get back to 100 per cent that bit faster.

Best grip socks

Trusox 3.0 Grip Socks

The original fan-favorite when it comes to grip socks

Specifications

Colorways available: 12
Sizes available: Small/Medium/Large/Extra Large

Reasons to buy

+
Plenty of cushioning and traction provided
+
Easy to customise to exact needs

Reasons to avoid

-
Expensive in comparison to other options

With their iconic design and great performance, the Trusox 3.0 grip socks are my favorite option when pairing with soccer cleats. The patented grip technology features suede-like grip pads on the inside and outside of the sock to aid underfoot traction and limit foot slippage, which makes it feel like your foot is glued to the bottom of the cleat.

Other brands have attempted to copy Trusox's trusted technology, but none have quite managed to hit the mark in quite the same way. The pioneer has been around for over a decade now, refining and executing a brilliant grip sock in the process.

I love how they come in a range of colours, thicknesses and lengths, too, helping players customise depending on their personal preferences and what color they need.

Nike Strike Soccer Sleeves

No longer worry about cutting your socks

Specifications

Colorways available: 4
Sizes available: S/M, L/XL

+
Easy to wear
+
No longer have to cut socks

Reasons to avoid

Branded

Essentially footless soccer socks, these tubes from Nike ensure players no longer have to cut their socks in order to wear their desired pair underneath anymore. This removes all that hassle of finding a pair of scissors, as well as having to deal with the inevitable tears and fraying cutting your socks comes with.

Available in a range of different sizes and colour variations, it’s quite easy to find a set that will match your team’s colors.

Another advantage of leg sleeves is that they can eliminate the need for sock-tape, as the compressive ends of the sleeves hug your legs and would prevent your shin guards from falling out. This helps to create a super seamless and clean effect when paired with one of the best laceless soccer cleats, which I'm a huge fan of doing on gameday.

Best for cleaning

Reasons to buy

+
Super simple to use
+
Very easy to transport

Reasons to avoid

-
Doesn't hold a lot of water

It's tedious cleaning either your own cleats or even your child's best soccer cleats for kids, but the Boot Buddy is arguably my favorite companion nowadays. There's no more pain when I have this around, and it makes me a lot more likely to clean my cleats as well.

A tool that can be used to wash your cleats straight after a game, the Boot Buddy features a refillable bottle to hold water, a hard bristle brush with an adjustable screw-in neck to control the flow of water on one side and a fork tool on the other side to remove mud. This all combines to make an extremely sound product.

Plus, the Boot Buddy is lightweight and easily transportable - players can just stick in their bag and be on their way, while application is extremely simple, too. I love that this product takes the usual hassle of cleaning cleats from tens of minutes to just less than five.

Best bag

Nike Academy Team Hard Case Duffel Bag

Keep your belongings in order with two separate compartments

Specifications

Colorways available: 3
Sizes available : Medium (37L)

Reasons to buy

+
Separate compartments for cleats and clothes
+
Extremely durable

Reasons to avoid

-
Initially quite expensive

A bag that will make every soccer player’s life easier, hard shell bags have two compartments that helps separate muddy soccer cleats from your clothes and other belongings. I always find that the best soccer cleats for firm ground attract a lot of dirt during games and training, especially during the winter months, so separating them is key to keep things clean.

I've personally had this bag for three years now and it's showing barely any signs of wear, highlighting just how durable and long-lasting it is. So while the initial cost is quite high for a soccer bag, it'll definitely last the test of time.

But while the main aspect of this bag is to separate your cleats from your clothes, I also found that things were just generally more organised in this bag, too. Finding certain smaller items, such as keys or a wallet, is so much easier when there aren't cleats constantly blocking the way.

Best for storage

Krone Kalpasmos Multi-Functional Travel Duffel Bag

Transport your soccer balls, cleats and training equipment around a whole lot easier

Specifications

Colorways available: 1
Sizes available: 1

Reasons to buy

+
Adjustable compartments
+
Easily transportable considering its size

Reasons to avoid

-
Expensive

With several compartments inside that contain plenty of storage space, transporting around soccer cleats, soccer balls and any other bits of equipment you need for solo training sessions or small-sided games with friends is simple with this Krone Kalpasmos bag.

Its cuboid structure makes it easy to carry despite its size, while I also found there's a lot more space inside than regular sports bags. As a result, you simply cannot go wrong with this option.

The best thing about these bags is that you can alter the amount of compartments. The bags come with several dividers which have velcro on the side that stick to the walls of the bag, meaning you can change the amount of space you need to keep everything separate. I particularly loved not having to sift through this bag when trying to find things.
