England will attempt to win their first major trophy when they face Germany in the final of the Women's Euro 2022 on Sunday.

It has been a glorious month for the Lionesses so far. Sarina Wiegman's side got their campaign off to a winning start on opening night with a drama-free 1-0 victory over Austria.

They then delivered a stunning showing to demolish Norway 8-0 and book their place in the knockout phase with a game to spare. England ended the group stage by administering another thrashing, this time to the tune of 5-0 as Northern Ireland were sent home with their tails between their legs.

England had to show a different side to their game in the quarter-finals. They were second best for long periods against Spain, but Wiegman's women dug deep and stayed in the game. A 1-1 draw sent the match to extra time, during which Georgia Stanway's stunning strike sent the host nation through to the semi-finals.

England's 4-0 triumph over Sweden earlier this week was their most impressive display yet. But Germany have also been excellent throughout this tournament. They battled past a fine France side in the semis, winning 2-1 and conceding their first goal in five games.

Unlike England, who have never got their hands on the European Women's Championship before, Germany know what it takes to be crowned queens of the continent. They have lifted this trophy eight times before, which makes them twice as successful as every other European nation put together.

Germany will therefore not be fazed at Wembley Stadium on Sunday, but the backing of a passionate home crowd hands England an advantage.

The players in Wiegman's squad are on the brink of securing a place in the history books. A brilliant team stands in their way, but anyone who has watched the Lionesses at Euro 2022 will know that they will give everything for victory.

Kick-off is at 5pm BST on Sunday 31 July. The game is live on BBC One, BBC iPlayer and the BBC Sport website in the UK. See below for international broadcast options.

VPN guide

Use a VPN to watch Euro 2022 football from outside your country

If you’re out of the country for a round of Euro 2022 fixtures, then annoyingly your domestic on-demand services won’t work – the broadcaster knows where you are because of your IP address (boo!). You'll be blocked from watching it, which is not ideal if you’ve paid up for a subscription and still want to catch the action without resorting to illegal feeds you’ve found on Reddit.

But assistance is on hand. To get around that, all you have to do is get a Virtual Private Network (VPN), assuming it complies with your broadcaster’s T&Cs. A VPN creates a private connection between your device and t'internet, meaning the service can’t work out where you are and won't automatically block the service you've paid for. All the info going between is entirely encrypted – and that's a result.
