Uruguay have a great chance to register their first World Cup 2026 win at the Hard Rock Stadium in Miami, where they face Cape Verde.

The latter may fancy their chances though, having registered an historic draw against former World Cup winners Spain in their opening match.

The referee for Uruguay vs Cape Verde

Viewers in the UK can watch this game live via BBC and BBC iPlayer, with kick-off scheduled for 11pm BST, making it ripe for Monday morning yawn inducement.

Overseeing the game on the pitch is Norwegian referee Espen Eskas.

The 37-year-old plies his trade predominantly in this top tier in Norway.

However, this term he has also been involved in Champions League games, so is accustomed to officiating on the biggest stages.

The Norwegian was also a fourth official in Germany for Euro 2024.

He originally entered the game as a player, but switched to refereeing around the age of 16.

Eskas will be joined by fellow Norwegians Jan Erik Engan and Isaak Bashevkin on the line, with American Tori Penso the fourth official and Brooke Mayo in reserve.

Watching on from afar is video assistant referee Willy Delajod.

He hails from France and works in Ligue 1 and internationally, as both a referee and a video official.

Joining him in the booth is fellow Frenchman Jerome Brisard and Dutch official Dennis Higler.
