Aston Villa v Southampton live stream: How to watch the Premier League from anywhere in the world
Watch an Aston Villa v Southampton live stream as the Premier League returns to action on Friday night
Aston Villa v Southampton live stream, Friday 16 September, 8pm BST, Sky Sports
Looking for an Aston Villa v Southampton live stream? We've got you covered with our handy guide.
After last weekend's full schedule was postponed as a mark of respect following the death of Queen Elizabeth II, the Premier League returns to action on Friday night.
Aston Villa welcome Southampton to Villa Park as they look to build on the strong performance which earned them a 1-1 home draw with Manchester City last time out.
The visitors, meanwhile, will be aiming to bounce back from a 1-0 defeat away to Wolves in their previous outing.
It's been a disappointing start to the season for Villa, who have picked up only four points from 24 available, their only win so far coming at home to Everton on Matchday 2.
And that was only their fifth win in 17 league games at Villa Park under Gerrard; one of those victories was a 4-0 thrashing of Southampton back in March, though, which might serve as a good omen.
The Saints haven't fared markedly better than Villa during the early weeks of 2022/23, collecting seven points from their first fixtures.
Ralph Hasenhuttl's side have lost two (at Tottenham and Wolves) and won one (at Leicester) on the road so far; they recorded only three Premier League away wins last term, the fewest of any team who stayed up.
Team news
Gerrard remains without long-term absentee Diego Carlos for this clash, while Matty Clash is also out after sustaining a hamstring injury against Man City – meaning Ashley Young is likely to deputise at right-back.
Southampton's Jan Bednarek is on loan from Aston Villa and ineligible to face his parent club. Valentino Livramento and Romeo Lavia are unavailable through injury, but Ainsley Maitland-Niles could make his first start since joining on loan from Arsenal.
Kick-off is at 8pm BST on Friday 16 September and UK viewers can watch live on Sky Sports Main Event, Sky Sports Premier League and Sky Sports Main Event Ultra HDR. See below for international broadcast options.

VPN guide
Use a VPN to watch Premier League football from outside your country
If you’re out of the country for a round of Premier League fixtures, then annoyingly your domestic on-demand services won’t work – the broadcaster knows where you are because of your IP address (boo!). You'll be blocked from watching it, which is not ideal if you’ve paid up for a subscription and still want to catch the action without resorting to illegal feeds you’ve found on Reddit.
But assistance is on hand. To get around that, all you have to do is get a Virtual Private Network (VPN), assuming it complies with your broadcaster’s T&Cs. A VPN creates a private connection between your device and t'internet, meaning the service can’t work out where you are and won't automatically block the service you've paid for. All the info going between is entirely encrypted – and that's a result.
There are plenty of good-value options out there, including:
ExpressVPN including a 30-day, money-back guarantee
FourFourTwo’s brainy office mates TechRadar love its super speedy connections, trustworthy security and the fact it works with Android, Apple, Roku, Amazon Fire TV, PS4 and loads more. You also get a money-back guarantee, 24/7 support and it's currently available for a knockdown price. Go get it!
NordVPN with quality mobile and desktop apps
A cheaper option and almost ExpressVPN's equal when it comes to quality, too. A single subscription covers six connections, so you can use it on mobile, laptop, streaming devices and more, all at the same time.
Surfshark offers a great VPN at a fraction of the price
It's clear to see why Surfshark is top of TechRadar's best cheap VPN table – it combines an excellent product with bargain pricing, starting at £2/$2.50 a month!
