England fans furious with Hodgson after best performance in years

England fans have taken to social media to demand the resignation of Roy Hodgson after one of their team's best tournament performances in living memory.

England created an array of chances in a superb, high-intensity display which was ample evidence for long-time supporters that Hodgson should be relieved of his duties immediately, if not sooner.

“Roy’s finally got his team playing the way he wants, and as we can see, it was a total disaster,” said fan Ben Wright, of the team that created 15 goalscoring opportunities before conceding a late equaliser through a defensive mistake.

“I can’t believe he only picked seven attack-minded players,” Wright added. “Hodgson is a defensive dinosaur. Like an ankylosaurus, or a triceratops at best.”

Roy’s wrong

The manager’s experimental formation, including Wayne Rooney pulling the strings in midfield, saw England on the front foot throughout, much to the outrage of fans.

“Hodgson’s tactics, which provided a platform for our most creative players while nullifying the Russian threat for 89 minutes, were completely wrong,” said lifetime England fan Keith Bilton.

“What on earth was he thinking playing Rooney there? OK, it allowed him to play to his strengths while making room for Kane, Alli, Sterling and Lallana, but the mere fact that the experiment worked doesn’t mean it was the right thing to do.

“Plus his substitutions were insane. No other manager in the world would have tried to hang on to a 1-0 lead with three minutes to go. He should have brought on Vardy and Rashford. At least if we’d conceded from there, nobody would be criticising him at all.”
