They're ruthless, they're organised, they're precise. Well… usually. We thought they were just having an off-year in 2018 when the Germans dropped out of the group stage for the first time since 1938. Now, they're 1-0 down already, having lost to Japan.

Let's just gloss over that, though. This is a nation who, rather like Bayern Munich at club level, have always seemed likely to cruise to a semi-final without breaking so much as a sweat. The Germans have always had talent in abundance, with genius across the pitch and some of the best players on Earth in their ranks.

And what moments they've given us. The madness of that 7-1. The World Cup final in 2002. The home soil run of 2006 all the way to the semis. Smashing Argentina at multiple tournaments. The destruction of Fabio Capello's England in 2010.

Our big question: how many of the Deutsch can you recall? We're looking for over 100 players who have represented the nation at a World Cup since they reunified in 1990.
