In the World Cup, the countries that get to the semi-finals of the competition play the same number of games as the countries that get to the final.

How? Simple – the third-place play-off. That useless, meaningless fixture that no one really wants to play means that if you get to the final four, you're going to play seven matches, regardless of what happens.

Over the years, 25 teams have got to that stage. Some of them have got there regularly, others had a particularly good group of players and managed to go so near yet so far.
