The Qatar World Cup 2022 has raised heat questions like no other – but how hot will it be? 

Ever since the Gulf state won the bid to host the tournament, temperature has been, well, a hot topic. For the first time ever, of course, the competition has been shifted to a winter slot, since it's much cooler in Qatar, while air-conditioned stadiums have also been touted.

Even in winter though, the Middle East is lot hotter than Europe – and talk of drinks breaks and warm weather has still dominated conversation about the 2022 World Cup. Here's everything you need to know…

How hot will it be at the Qatar World Cup 2022?

Temperatures in Qatar at the World Cup are expected to be around anywhere between 15ºC and 30ºC.

The temperature in Qatar in November ranges from an average high of 29ºC in the daytime, to an average low of 19ºC at night.

How hot does it get in Qatar in December?

The average temperature in December in Qatar is 20ºC. The record high for this month is 32.7ºC.

What is the hottest it gets in Qatar?

Qatar's record temperature is 50ºC, which was recorded in July 2010. It is unlikely to reach anywhere near this hot during the World Cup, as it'll be in winter.

Does it rain in Qatar?

Yes. There is an average of 3mm of precipitation in Qatar in November, while  in December, this jumps to 12.1mm. 

Compare this to the United Kingdom, though: according to the MetOffice, the UK received an average of 123.40mm during the same month.

Are the stadiums at Qatar World Cup 2022 air-conditioned?

How will Qatar cool stadiums at the World Cup 2022?

Stadiums in Qatar have a solar-powered cooling system. 

Sensors keep the temperature constant and adjust air flows, while rising air is fed back into the stadium cooling system, cleaned by 7ºC water and pumped back around. 

Qatar hope that players will be kept at 21ºC.

Are there drinks breaks at Qatar World Cup 2022?

If the weather reaches a hot enough temperature, drinks breaks will be provided at the World Cup in Qatar. Breaks will be considered on a game by game basis, however.
