Two of Italian football’s fiercest rivals go head-to-head for the first domestic trophy of the season when Inter Milan face Juventus in the Italian Super Cup on Wednesday.
Serie A champions Inter are enjoying another impressive league campaign, sitting one point clear of AC Milan on top of the standings with a game in hand.
It has been a different story for Juve, who have struggled since Massimiliano Allegri’s return in the summer.
The Coppa Italia holders are currently fifth, three points outside the top four and 11 points adrift of Inter.
But they produced an astonishing comeback at Roma on Sunday, scoring three goals in seven second-half minutes to beat Jose Mourinho's side 4-3.
Juve looked down and out when they were 3-1 down in the capital, but Manuel Locatelli, Dejan Kulusevski and Mattia De Sciglio struck to turn the game on its head before Wojciech Szczesny saved a late penalty to maintain their lead.
There was some bad news for the Bianconeri, though, as Italy winger Federico Chiesa limped off and it was later confirmed that he tore his ACL.
Allegri’s side face a daunting task to topple a Nerazzurri side in imperious form.
Simone Inzaghi has settled into life as Antonio Conte’s successor with apparent ease, and his team have hit their stride recently with eight consecutive league wins.
The latest was a 2-1 win over Inzaghi’s former side Lazio on Sunday, but they were held to a 1-1 draw by Juve in their last meeting back in October.
