Jurgen Klopp's side will be looking to build on Sunday's vital triumph over Tottenham in the Premier League. Had Liverpool come unstuck in north London, they would have fallen 13 points behind the top four. Even with around two-thirds of the campaign remaining, that would have been a sizable deficit to overturn.

Liverpool were hanging on in the closing stages but overall they were good value for their 2-1 win. Mohamed Salah's first-half brace gave Spurs a mountain to climb, and although the hosts improved after the interval they did not do enough to restore parity.

Liverpool will now turn their attention towards the Carabao Cup, a competition they won courtesy of a penalty shoot-out victory over Chelsea in last season's final. Klopp will have to make do without Luis Diaz, Diogo Jota, Arthur Melo and Naby Keita, while Joel Matip is a doubt.

James Milner could return to the starting XI after a recent head injury, but Klopp will no doubt rest some of his regular starters ahead of Saturday's Premier League clash with Southampton. Salah, Fabinho, Thiago Alcantara and Virgil van Dijk are among those who could be given the night off.

For the first time since 1986, Derby are playing in the third tier of English football this season. The Rams are on a four-match unbeaten run at present, but they were frustrated in 2-2 draw with Torquay United in the FA Cup at the weekend.

Whereas Wednesday's game will be Liverpool's first in the Carabao Cup this term, Derby have already played twice in this competition. They overcame former manager Nigel Clough and Mansfield Town 2-1 in the first round, before springing a surprise by beating West Brom 1-0 in the second round.

Derby will now be looking to win at Anfield for the first time since November 1998, when Kevin Harper and Paulo Wanchope scored in a 2-1 victory.

VPN guide

Use a VPN to watch Carabao Cup football from outside your country

If you’re out of the country for a round of Carabao Cup action, then annoyingly your domestic on-demand services won’t work – the broadcaster knows where you are because of your IP address (boo!). You'll be blocked from watching it, which is not ideal if you’ve paid up for a subscription and still want to catch the action without resorting to illegal feeds you’ve found on Reddit.

But assistance is on hand. To get around that, all you have to do is get a Virtual Private Network (VPN), assuming it complies with your broadcaster’s T&Cs. A VPN creates a private connection between your device and t'internet, meaning the service can’t work out where you are and won't automatically block the service you've paid for. All the info going between is entirely encrypted – and that's a result.

There are plenty of good-value options out there, and FourFourTwo currently recommends:

ExpressVPN
