The Netherlands Euro 2024 squad finished third in Group D, but managed to qualify for the knockout stages as one of the best third-placed sides at the tournament before comfortably making it through their last 16 tie.

Things weren't quite as easy in the quarter-finals for the Dutch, however, with Turkey taking the lead in the first half of the match. The Netherlands rallied in the second half, though, with Stefan de Vrij powering a header into the Turkey goal in the 70th minute, before a Mert Muldur own goal six minutes later sent the Oranje into the final four.

After kicking off their campaign in Germany with a morale-boosting win against Poland, the Netherlands then earned a hard-fought draw against a Kylian Mbabbe-less France. Xavi Simons did have a goal ruled out for offside in controversial circumstances, too.

Ronald Koeman's side were unable to carry that form and resillience into their final Euro 2024 group game against Austria, however, as they lost 3-2 at the Olympistadion in Germany's capital. While they twice fought back from being a goal down, they quickly conceded on each occasion - had they won, they would've topped the group.

Instead, the Netherlands faced Group E winners Romania in the last 16 - a tie that ended up being a lot easier than first seemed. With goals from Cody Gakpo and Donyell Malen, the Dutch comfortably ran out 3-0 winners in Munich.

Beating Turkey now means the Netherlands will face England at the Westfalenstadion in Dortmund on Wednesday night, at the stadium where the Cruyff Turn was born 50 years ago. It's a difficult test for sure, but the Three Lions' performances have been far from convincing this tournament and are certainly there for the taking.

Virgil van Dijk, Nathan Ake and De Vrij will need to be on top form to ensure the defence stays solid against England, while the form of Memphis Depay and Cody Gakpo is encouraging for their chances at Euro 2024. The Liverpool forward has been integral to their success so far, and will be essential for a result against the nation where he plies his trade at club level.

As with every Euro 2024 squad involved in the tournament, FourFourTwo will bring you all the latest on the Netherlands as we report live from the European Championship, as well as details on how to watch all the games and fixtures awaiting each nation.

Having departed his Dutch post four years ago, before the delayed Euro 2020, for an unhappy spell at Barcelona, Ronald Koeman is finally fulfilling his wish to coach at a major international tournament. It's gone much better than many expected, too, with the semi-finals clearly a success for the Dutch boss.

Of course, he won't be satisfied with stopping there, with the 1988 European Championship winner looking to secure the trophy he won as a player, also in Germany.

Reports of Virgil van Dijk's demise, following the cruciate ligament knee injury that cruelly denied the Liverpool and Netherlands skipper a crack at Euro 2020, have been greatly exaggerated. Aside from the resurgent 32-year-old's myriad defensive and leadership qualities, he continues to chip in with some big goals for both club and country.
