Eddie Howe's side will be looking to continue their excellent form. No team in the Premier League has collected more points than the Magpies since the start of October, with Newcastle winning six and drawing one of their last seven fixtures. They have risen up to third in the table as a result and currently look like genuine contenders for the Champions League places.
Qualifying for any European competition would be a fine achievement in Howe's first full season in charge. But many Newcastle fans would prefer to see the team lift a trophy.
After all, it has been a long time without one for English football's sleeping giant. Newcastle have not won major silverware since an FA Cup triumph in 1955. The club's supporters crave a long-overdue trophy.
Crystal Palace also head into Wednesday's match on the back of a win at the weekend. Patrick Vieira's side left it late to see off West Ham, with Michael Olise notching the winner deep into second-half stoppage time.
That was Palace's first league triumph away from home of 2022/23. Now up into the top half of the table, Vieira's side will be looking to go one better than the 0-0 draw they managed at St James' Park in September.
Both managers are likely to shuffle their packs ahead of Premier League matches this weekend. Newcastle will have to make do without Alex Isak, Emil Krafth, Matt Ritchie and Paul Dummett, but Joelinton and Callum Wilson are available again.
Palace will be unable to call upon the services of James McArthur, Nathan Ferguson and Chris Richards for the long trip to the northeast. Odsonne Edouard is unlikely to be risked, and there could be starts for fringe players like James Tomkins, Jean-Philippe Mateta, Malcolm Ebiowei, Will Hughes and Jairo Riedewald.

VPN guide
Use a VPN to watch Carabao Cup football from outside your country
If you’re out of the country for a round of Carabao Cup action, then annoyingly your domestic on-demand services won’t work – the broadcaster knows where you are because of your IP address (boo!). You'll be blocked from watching it, which is not ideal if you’ve paid up for a subscription and still want to catch the action without resorting to illegal feeds you’ve found on Reddit.
But assistance is on hand. To get around that, all you have to do is get a Virtual Private Network (VPN), assuming it complies with your broadcaster’s T&Cs. A VPN creates a private connection between your device and t'internet, meaning the service can’t work out where you are and won't automatically block the service you've paid for. All the info going between is entirely encrypted – and that's a result.
There are plenty of good-value options out there, and FourFourTwo currently recommends:
