Nottingham Forest will be looking to bounce back from a Boxing Day defeat by Middlesbrough when they host Huddersfield on Thursday.
Steve Cooper's side tasted defeat for the first time in 10 matches on Sunday. That unbeaten run was bound to come to an end at some point, and Forest are unlikely to dwell on that negative outcome at the Riverside Stadium.
At the time of writing, no team in the Championship has amassed more points since Cooper was handed the reins in September. Relegation was a concern back then, but Forest are now on the cusp of the play-offs.
Cooper will stress the importance of returning to winning ways immediately. Forest will not want the momentum they had built up to ebb away, and a home game against Huddersfield gives them an opportunity to end 2021 on a high.
That is not to say the Terriers should be underestimated. They climbed into the top six thanks to a battling 3-2 victory over Blackpool on Boxing Day, and are now unbeaten in four games. As of Monday, Forest are one of only five teams in the division to have scored more goals than Huddersfield, who have found the back of the net in all but one of their last nine outings.
Huddersfield remain without Pipa, Alex Vallejo and Jonathan Hogg, each of whom is hoping to return to the first-team fold in early January. Danny Ward is in fine form for Town, having scored in each of his last three appearances in the Championship.
Forest will be unable to call upon the services of Alex Mighten, Max Lowe, Jordi Osei-Tutu and Loic Mbe Soh for this one. Cooper could freshen things up after Boxing Day, and both managers will have half an eye on their upcoming encounters over the New Year weekend.
