Portugal will be looking to make it six points from six at the European Championship when they do battle with Germany on Saturday.
Fernando Santos’ side got the defence of their European crown off to the perfect start with a 3-0 victory over Hungary last time out. The scoreline flattered Portugal, though, and they will need to improve if they are to go all the way for the second Euros on the bounce. It took a deflected strike in the 84th minute for Portugal to break the deadlock, before which they had struggled to create clear-cut chances against a deep, well-organised Hungarian backline.
The result is all-important in tournament football, however, and Portugal did not exactly play thrilling, attacking football when they triumphed five years ago.
It is also true that they might actually be better suited to playing a team like Germany, who will push up the pitch and take the initiative in Munich. Ruben Dias and Pepe will have no problem defending the penalty box, and Portugal will be content to soak up pressure and break forward in transition.

The onus is certainly on Germany to play on the front foot following their 1-0 loss to France. It was a tight game on Tuesday and on another day die Mannschaft would have picked up a point, but there was also cause for concern for Joachim Low.
Germany looked toothless in the final third, and would give anything for an out-and-out goalscorer like Miroslav Klose. They did not look completely comfortable with Low’s three-at-the-back formation either, although the previously used 4-3-3 inspired even less confidence.
One of Leroy Sane and Timo Werner could come into the team to provide a change of pace in attack, but Low is unlikely to make wholesale changes for this must-not-lose encounter at the Allianz Arena.
