But outside the confines of popular culture, football produced a plethora of icons. Steve McClaren's umbrella. Pizzagate. Cristiano Ronaldo winking at the Portugal bench.
Today, we'd like you to name the top scorer in each of Europe's top five leagues for every season between 2000 and 2009. Many of them went on to write their names into history. Some not so much.
It's a shame, isn't it? When you've notched over 20 Bundesliga goals in a single campaign, but you're still less famous than Steve McClaren's umbrella.
