The 2007 FA Cup Final brought together the two best club sides in England – and ended in a crushing bore. Despite a wealth of talent in both sides, Jose Mourinho’s Chelsea and Sir Alex Ferguson’s United cancelled each other out, with the deadlock only broken late in extra time.
Yet it also marked a turning point. This was the last trophy of Mourinho’s first run as Chelsea boss and, despite the victory, cracks were showing. Jose’s relationship with Roman Abramovich was strained and his Blues had just surrendered their league crown to Manchester United.
For Fergie’s side, another golden era was dawning. Manchester United would go on to complete a hat-trick of league titles, plus a Champions League in 2008... but not the FA Cup.
