Mikel Arteta's men were not in Premier League action in midweek, but they did beat PSV 1-0 in the Europa League. That was Arsenal's eighth win on the bounce in all competitions, while they have now kept a clean sheet in four of their last five outings.
Despite missing out on the midweek round of fixtures, Arsenal remain top of the table with a four-point lead over second-placed Manchester City. Their advantage will be cut to one point if Pep Guardiola's side beat Brighton on Saturday, but the Gunners will be quietly confident of still being at the summit of the standing when the Premier League pauses for the 2022 World Cup in the middle of next month.
Southampton have eased the pressure on under-fire manager Ralph Hasenhuttl in recent days. A 1-1 draw with West Ham ended a four-match losing streak, before the Saints ran out 1-0 winners over Bournemouth on Tuesday night.
The Saints are up to 14th in the table, but they are only two points above the bottom three. Given they have one of the youngest teams in the division, Southampton fans may have to accept a degree of inconsistency this term, and simply staying up would probably be considered a successful season in the circumstances.
Arsenal will have to make do without Mohamed Elneny, Oleksandr Zinchenko and Emile Smith Rowe on Sunday. Thomas Partey, Martin Odegaard, Gabriel Martinelli, Ben White, William Saliba and Aaron Ramsdale all return to the starting line-up after beginning the PSV match on the bench.
Southampton are unable to call upon the services of Tino Livramento, Armel Bella-Kotchap and Romeo Lavia due to injury. Kyle Walker-Peters is not fit in time to feature either, while loanee Ainsley Maitland-Niles is ineligible to face his parent club.
Saints are also without striker Che Adams, who has been suffering from hamstring problems. "We are not taking any risks because we don't want to lose him," manager Ralph Hassenhuttl said.

VPN guide
Use a VPN to watch Premier League football from outside your country
If you’re out of the country for a round of Premier League fixtures, then annoyingly your domestic on-demand services won’t work – the broadcaster knows where you are because of your IP address (boo!). You'll be blocked from watching it, which is not ideal if you’ve paid up for a subscription and still want to catch the action without resorting to illegal feeds you’ve found on Reddit.
But assistance is on hand. To get around that, all you have to do is get a Virtual Private Network (VPN), assuming it complies with your broadcaster’s T&Cs. A VPN creates a private connection between your device and t'internet, meaning the service can’t work out where you are and won't automatically block the service you've paid for. All the info going between is entirely encrypted – and that's a result.
There are plenty of good-value options out there, and FourFourTwo currently recommends:
ExpressVPN including a 30-day, money-back guarantee
FourFourTwo’s brainy office mates TechRadar love its super speedy connections, trustworthy security and the fact it works with Android, Apple, Roku, Amazon Fire TV, PS5 and loads more. You also get a money-back guarantee, 24/7 support and it's currently available for a knockdown price. Go get it!
