Tokyo 2020 football live stream: How to watch Mexico v Japan, from anywhere in the world
A Mexico v Japan football live stream from Tokyo 2020 is available wherever you are - here's how to watch
Looking for a live stream of the Tokyo 2020 Olympics men's football bronze medal match between Mexico and Japan? Well, you've come to the right place!
Unlike third place play-offs at major tournaments, the two losing semi-finalists at the Olympics should actually be able to get themselves up to go again; there is actually silverware (well, bronzeware - or bronze-wear because, you know, medals) at stake.
Mexico, who won gold at the 2012 Games in London, went out to Brazil on penalties in the semi-finals this time around, while hosts Japan were beaten by Spain. This will be Japan's second bronze medal match, having lost to neighbours South Korea in 2012.
While the men's competition it the Olympics is contested by U23 teams (effectively U24 on this occasion due to the one-year delay to the Games), nations are allowed up to three over-aged players in their squad. Goalkeeper Guillermo Ochoa, a cult figure for his exploits at the 2014 World Cup, captains Mexico, while former Southampton defender Maya Yoshida where's the armband for Japan.
Kick-off is at 10am on Friday, UK time.
And don't worry if you're overseas; you'll still be able to watch a Tokyo 2020 football live stream. We've got all the details in this handy guide.
Free Tokyo 2020 football live stream
There may not be free Tokyo 2020 live streams in every corner of the globe (see viewing options further down below), but UK viewers will get plenty of the action live on the BBC – with some games on BBC Two, and others on BBC's Red Button service and iPlayer.
Other games are exclusive to Discovery+ or Eurosport subscribers, however – so see below for further information on the cheapest way to watch those.
Use a VPN to watch a Tokyo 2020 football live stream from outside your country
If you’re out of the UK for any Tokyo 2020 fixtures, then annoyingly your domestic on-demand services won’t work – the broadcaster knows where you are because of your IP address (boo!). You'll be blocked from watching it, which is not ideal if you still want to catch Germany's under-23s without resorting to illegal feeds you’ve found on Reddit.
But assistance is on hand. To get around that, all you have to do is get a Virtual Private Network (VPN), assuming it complies with your broadcaster’s T&Cs. A VPN creates a private connection between your device and t'internet, meaning the service can’t work out where you are and won't automatically block the service you've paid for. All the info going between is entirely encrypted – and that's a result.
There are plenty of good-value options out there, including:
ExpressVPN including a 30-day, money-back guarantee
FourFourTwo’s brainy office mates TechRadar love its super speedy connections, trustworthy security and the fact it works with Android, Apple, Roku, Amazon Fire TV, PS4 and loads more. You also get a money-back guarantee, 24/7 support and it's currently available for a knockdown price. Go get it!
NordVPN with quality mobile and desktop apps
A cheaper option and almost ExpressVPN's equal when it comes to quality, too. A single subscription covers six connections, so you can use it on mobile, laptop, streaming devices and more, all at the same time.
Surfshark offers a great VPN at a fraction of the price
It's clear to see why Surfshark is top of TechRadar's best cheap VPN table – it combines an excellent product with bargain pricing, starting at £2/$2.50 a month!
