After back-to-back defeats in the Premier League, Spurs will be looking to return to winning ways in this crunch Champions League clash on Wednesday. Antonio Conte's side turned in a hugely disappointing display in a 2-0 loss to Manchester United last week, with their opponents dominating the match from start to finish.

Spurs strived to bounce back at the weekend, but a 2-1 home reverse to Newcastle leaves them five points adrift of table-topping Arsenal despite having played a game more. Conte will certainly want to see more from his players when Sporting CP come to town.

Tottenham are top of Group D with two rounds of fixtures remaining, and a win here would secure their place in the knockout phase with a game to spare. But Spurs lost the reverse fixture 2-0 in Lisbon, and another defeat would potentially take their fate out of their hands ahead of a trip to Marseille on matchday six next week.

Sporting have won two and drawn two of their four games in this competition. They are third in the group despite having the same number of points as Marseille, who have the advantage on the head-to-head record.

Spurs remain without Richarlison and Dejan Kulusevski, so Conte will probably stick with the 3-5-2 formation he used in the losses to Manchester United and Newcastle. Rodrigo Bentancur, Eric Dier and Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg will miss the Marseille match if they pick up a booking in this encounter.

VPN guide

Use a VPN to watch Champions League football from outside your country

If you’re out of the country for a round of Champions League fixtures, then annoyingly your domestic on-demand services won’t work – the broadcaster knows where you are because of your IP address (boo!). You'll be blocked from watching it, which is not ideal if you’ve paid up for a subscription and still want to catch the action without resorting to illegal feeds you’ve found on Reddit.

But assistance is on hand. To get around that, all you have to do is get a Virtual Private Network (VPN), assuming it complies with your broadcaster’s T&Cs. A VPN creates a private connection between your device and t'internet, meaning the service can’t work out where you are and won't automatically block the service you've paid for. All the info going between is entirely encrypted – and that's a result.

There are plenty of good-value options out there, including:
