In May 2018, new Arsenal manager Unai Emery sat in front of the media and conducted his first press conference in English. He had only been learning the language a matter of weeks.

He impressed many just by being willing to put himself out there and do such a thing. The consensus was that this new Basque boss was here to show that kind of dogged determination and give Arsenal a much-needed steel that had dissipated over the final dregs of the Arsene Wenger years. Of course, it didn't quite work out that way.
