Manchester City will be looking to extend their winning run to seven games in all competitions when they face Watford in the late kick-off on Saturday.
Pep Guardiola's side had to work hard for their latest victory, a 2-1 success at Villa Park in midweek. Bernardo Silva's sumptuous volley deserved to be the winning goal, but Aston Villa did a decent job of restricting City to relatively few clear-cut chances.
The Premier League champions have now won four games on the bounce in the top flight, and sit just one point off top spot going into the weekend. City have scored fewer goals than Chelsea and Liverpool so far, but their excellent defensive record could carry them to the title for a second season on the bounce.
Watford almost did their upcoming opponents a favour in their last encounter, but Hakim Ziyech's strike in the 72nd minute earned Chelsea a 2-1 victory at Vicarage Road.
That was the Hornets' fifth defeat in their seven games under Claudio Ranieri, but the veteran Italian has nevertheless made a difference. Watford have scored seven goals in their last three games against Manchester United, Leicester and Chelsea. Ranieri will bank on the team's firepower keeping Watford in the division.
Phil Foden could return to City's starting XI after a spell on the sidelines with a minor injury, while Jack Grealish is also in line to begin the match.
Ferran Torres and Kevin De Bruyne are definitely out, but Kyle Walker, John Stones and Ilkay Gundogan will all need to be assessed. Aymeric Laporte is available again after serving a one-match ban against Villa.
Watford will be unable to call upon the services of Peter Etebo, Ben Foster, Ken Sema, Francisco Sierralta, Adam Masina, Kwadwo Baah, Ismaila Sarr and Nicolas N'Koulou. With the hectic festive period on the horizon, Ranieri will hope to clear the treatment table as soon as possible.
