Ally McCoist doesn't think England would be "weakening" the side by starting Jordan Henderson against Wales
"Henderson probably doesn't sound the most attractive one to the English supporters, but I think he does a great job," the Scotsman said on Talksport
Former Scottish footballer turned ITV co-commentator Ally McCoist has suggested that Gareth Southgate wouldn't be "weakening" England's team by making changes against Wales for their final Group B match of World Cup 2022.
To qualify for the knockout stages, England have to avoid losing 4-0 against Wales, leading McCoist to believe they are pretty much guaranteed a place in the last-16. His suggestions, therefore, come amid rumours that Kyle Walker is set to start the game tonight and Jordan Henderson will replace Jude Bellingham in midfield.
Speaking on Talksport, McCoist said: "You'd have to say England are going to qualify, of course they are - it would be an absolute disaster from where they are at this moment in time [if they didn't qualify].
"You can argue they're not weakening the team bringing guys like Kyle Walker in, or indeed Phil Foden, or indeed Callum Wilson or Jordan Henderson. I know Jordan Henderson probably doesn't sound the most attractive one to the English supporters, but I think he does a great job - I really, really do.
"I would argue the case you're not really weakening the side, but what you're doing is, you're getting game time into lads you might require later on in the tournament, particularly guys like Kyle Walker and Phil Foden."
Walker hasn't played a competitive game of football for club or country since the beginning of October, in a 6-3 win against Manchester United.
The right-back has been suffering with a groin injury during that time, but he is back fit and set to start his first game of the tournament.

Kieran Trippier has been deputising for him in the first two games, but it isn't clear whether it will be a direct replacement, or a change in formations.
Indeed, Southgate could choose a 5-2-3 formation he has favoured at previous tournaments, which would likely see Walker play right centre-back and Trippier right wing-back.
Elsewhere, there has been a clamour for Phil Foden to start against Wales, especially since the draw on Friday night against USA. Again, it isn't clear whether he will replace Bukayo Saka or Mason Mount.
