Manchester City are in flying form and will be aiming to pile more pressure on league leaders Chelsea when they travel to an Aston Villa side that has been revitalised by new boss Steven Gerrard.
City are on a five-match winning streak in all competitions, three of them coming in the Premier League, most recently a 2-1 win over West Ham on Sunday.
Villa, meanwhile, have won two games on the spin since appointing Gerrard from Rangers earlier this month.
They beat Crystal Palace 2-1 at Selhurst Park on Saturday, but the Villans face a new level of challenge against Pep Guardiola’s side.
City’s form on the road this season has been impressive, as they are on a run of five games unbeaten away from home stretching back to 15 August against Tottenham.
Their victory at the Etihad at the weekend left them one point behind league leaders Chelsea in second place.
This season’s title race looks set to be a thrilling three-way battle between those two sides and Liverpool, but getting through a hectic run of festive fixtures will be crucial.
City’s trip to Birmingham marks the first of nine games they have lined up in the space of a month between the league and Champions League.
