Atalanta v Liverpool live stream, BT Sport, Tuesday 3 November, 8pm GMT

Liverpool can take a huge step towards the Champions League knockout stage with victory over Atalanta on Tuesday.

Jurgen Klopp’s side, who won this competition in 2019, have taken maximum points from prior meetings with Ajax and Midtjylland. They also sit top of the Premier League following Saturday’s 2-1 victory over West Ham, although their performance levels have not been as high as they were during their surge to the title last term. That could be seen as a positive, though; in this most congested of seasons, grinding out wins when not at your best could be a recipe for success.

Group D had the potential to be a banana skin for Liverpool, and while there is still a long way to go before the knockout phase, the English champions have negotiated it well thus far. A trip to Atalanta is arguably their toughest assignment in this segment, and Klopp may privately be happy with a point on Tuesday. The German will also have half an eye on this weekend’s trip to Manchester City, the biggest match of Liverpool’s season so far.

Atalanta have collected four points from the first six available, thrashing Midtjylland and drawing with Ajax. Gian Piero Gasperini’s side are likely to be competing with Ajax for second spot in the group, so any positive result against Liverpool could be crucial to their chances of progressing. Atalanta reached the quarter-finals of the Champions League last season and have emerged as one of the best teams in Serie A in recent years, so Liverpool will not underestimate the threat they pose on Tuesday.

Nathaniel Phillips was excellent at centre-half in the win over West Ham, so the youngster should keep his place alongside Joe Gomez here. Virgil van Dijk is a long-term absentee for the Reds, while Fabinho and Joel Matip also look set to miss the trip to Bergamo. However, Naby Keita and Thiago Alcantara could be available for selection again.

Atalanta will need to assess Hans Hateboer, Cristian Romero and Rafael Tolo after the trio picked up injuries in Saturday’s 2-1 win at Crotone. Robin Gosens and Marten de Roon are expected to miss out.

Kick-off is at 8.00pm GMT and the game is being shown on BT Sport 2 in the UK. See below for watching details where you are.

Use a VPN to watch Atalanta v Liverpool live stream from outside your country

We know, we know, this has crept up on you a bit. So what if you’ve organised a quick winter break and you’re out of the country for the first Champions League week of the season?

We can help. If you’re out of the country for this round of Champions League fixtures, then annoyingly your domestic on-demand services won’t work – the broadcaster knows where you are because of your IP address, and you’ll be blocked from watching.

But assistance is on hand. To get around that, all you have to do is get a Virtual Private Network (VPN), assuming it complies with your broadcaster’s T&Cs. A VPN creates a private connection between your device and t'internet, meaning the service can’t work out where you are and won't automatically block the service you've paid for. All the info going between is entirely encrypted – and that's a result.

There are plenty of good-value options out there, including:

Grand.

2. Nord VPN (inc. 30-day, money-back guarantee)

A cheaper option; its cheapest package current averages at a titchy £2.29 per month.

3. IPVanish (inc. seven-day money-back guarantee)

Slightly more expensive but supports up to 10 devices, and you can pay up your hard-earned every three months if required.
