BBC Sport trolling Alphonso Davies? Titanic music played as the Beeb replays Canada's missed penalty against Belgium

Alphonso Davies' missed penalty against Belgium was always going to be replayed by BBC Sport ahead of their next game against Croatia – but the choice of music for the opening montage of the game was… interesting.

The Beeb's coverage of Canada's clash against the Croatians began with typically Canadian imagery with a North American narrator talking about some of the iconography of the typically polite nation, as images of mooses, Canada geese, maple syrup and even Ryan Gosling flashed up.

As the montage touched upon how Les Rouges had never scored at a World Cup, however, that heartbreaking miss from 12 yards was replayed – but not with something like Drake or Arcade Fire playing in the background.

We've seen plenty of memes of Canadian icon Celine Dion's My Heart Will Go On from the Titanic movie playing in the background – but this one hit different.

You can see the montage by watching from the start of the coverage on BBC iPlayer.

Canada head into this game buoyed by the performance that they put in against world No.2-ranked team Belgium if not the final result. The Red Devils eventually capitalised on a long ball from Toby Alderweireld that found its way through to Michy Batshuayi but were comprehensively outplayed across the whole 90 minutes.

John Herdman's side pressed effectively and were praised for their high-octane style but ultimately lacked the cutting edge to score against the Belgians, for all their dominance. The 1-0 loss means that Canada need to get a positive result from their final group game to be in with any chance of getting into the last-16.
