It’s sixth against seventh at Ashton Gate this weekend, as Bristol City and Norwich City both seek their fifth win of the Championship season.
Both teams have taken 14 points from their eight games so far, having each won four, drawn two and lost two in the opening weeks. However, they head into this game in contrasting form: whereas Bristol City are without a win in four, Norwich have taken 10 points from the last 12 available.
A 1-1 draw at Brentford in midweek denied the Canaries a fourth consecutive win, but Daniel Farke will be delighted by the way his team have bounced back from a disappointing start. Norwich were underwhelming for large parts of the Premier League campaign last time out, and ultimately went down with a whimper. Yet having kept hold of the likes of Emiliano Buendia, Todd Cantwell, Teemu Pukki and Max Aarons, there is no reason they shouldn’t be targeting automatic promotion in 2020/21.
Bristol City’s objective isn’t quite as ambitious, but the Robins will hope to still be in the play-off positions after all 46 fixtures have been fulfilled. However, a 1-0 defeat by Bournemouth on Wednesday means a month has now passed since their last victory, and Dean Holden is under pressure to arrest his side’s slide this weekend.
The hosts remain without centre-back Alfie Mawson, who faces at least another month on the treatment table with a knee injury. Andi Weimann is another absentee after the Austrian damaged his anterior cruciate ligament in the draw with Swansea last weekend.
Norwich will have to make do without the suspended Adam Idah, while Onel Hernandez, Christoph Zimmermann, Sam Byram and Kieran Dowell are all sidelined with various ailments. Left-back could be a problem position for the Canaries at Ashton Gate, with midfielder Jacob Sorensen likely to stand in if Xavi Quintilla fails a fitness test.
