Bucks businessman snaps up Ronaldo number plate
Cristiano Ronaldo’s ideal car number plate ‘CR7’ has been snapped up for £50,000 by a businessman from Beaconsfield. Russell Baldwin, 49 from Buckinghamshire, bought the plate after the Manchester United winger's bid for the car registration collapsed and has attached it to his 1996 Ford Escort worth a mere £300, when Ronaldo had planned to mount it on a £140,000 silver Bentley convertible.
"I put the plate on the Escort for a laugh, then I sent a picture to Ronaldo. I’d love to sell it to him," the Property Developer and father of three told The Sun. "My boys are Man United mad, they’d be made-up if he came on the phone.”
But if the Portuguese fails to get in touch, Baldwin still believes he could treble his money, selling the plate for £150,000 to any wealthy United fan willing to take it off his hands.
“It could be an excellent bit of business, the plate dates back to 1903,” he added
CR7, which combines Ronaldo’s initials and Manchester United shirt number, has already been registered as a trademark by the United winger for merchandising and for a boutique in Lisbon, so he may well be miffed at missing out on the plate - and this after he wrote off his Ferrari earlier this month en route to training before the clash with Chelsea at Old Trafford.
