Chelsea have reached an agreement to sign Molde starlet David Fofana in January, according to a transfer insider.

Fabrizio Romano reports that the Blues will sign the striker, who has been likened to Erling Haaland, next month.

Brighton were previously in the running for the 19-year-old but Chelsea have now tied up a deal that will see the player move to Stamford Bridge for around £8m.

Fofana enjoyed a prolific season for Molde in 2022, scoring 22 goals in 39 appearances in all competitions.

Haaland first made a name for himself with the Swedish side, finding the back of the net 20 times in 50 outings before a move to Red Bull Salzburg.

Fofana, who is valued at £6.1m by Transfermarkt, has one cap for Ivory Coast, but he has not represented the national team since his debut in 2019.

The 19-year-old is unlikely to be a regular starter immediately at Stamford Bridge, but Graham Potter is looking for cover in forward areas after Armando Broja suffered an ACL injury in an friendly against Aston Villa.

That leaves the Blues short of attacking options, with Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang - who has had a mixed start to his career in west London - their only fit central striker.

Chelsea will return to action on December 27 with a home game against Bournemouth.

The Blues are eighth in the Premier League table ahead of the season's resumption on Boxing Day, with an eight-point gap to Tottenham in fourth place.
