Chelsea can make it seven points from nine in the Champions League this season with victory over Rennes on Wednesday night.
The Blues strolled to a 3-0 victory over Burnley at the weekend, making it four consecutive clean sheets in all competitions for Frank Lampard’s side. Christian Pulisic was forced to withdraw from Saturday’s game after injuring his hamstring in the warm-up. The only other absentees for the Blues are Billy Gilmour and Kepa Arrizabalaga, although neither would have started this match even if they were fit. Edouard Mendy, Kepa’s replacement between the sticks, will be facing his former club on Wednesday, having so far kept five clean sheets in as many games in a Chelsea shirt.
Rennes are Champions League debutants and outsiders to progress to the knockout stage. They drew 1-1 with Krasnodar on matchday one, before succumbing to a 1-0 defeat by Sevilla last time out. The narrow nature of that scoreline suggests they could be a tough nut to crack at Stamford Bridge, and Lampard must warn against complacency this midweek.
