Leicester City will move to within one point of top spot in the Premier League with victory over Crystal Palace on Monday.
The Foxes drew 2-2 with Manchester United in an entertaining Boxing Day encounter that means they have lost just one of their last five outings. No team in the division has won more games than Leicester so far this season, but Brendan Rodgers’ side have occasionally encountered problems against opponents that sit deep and pack men behind the ball. Crystal Palace may adopt such an approach here, and Leicester will need to show plenty of creativity and guile if the home team chooses to play on the back foot.
Palace are low on confidence after dismal results in their last two games. Roy Hodgson’s charges lost 7-0 to Liverpool in their last home match, before succumbing to a 3-0 defeat by Aston Villa on Boxing Day. That outcome was particularly disappointing given that Palace had a one-man advantage for half of the game following Tyrone Mings’ red card on the stroke of the interval. Now winless in four games, Palace will be desperate to halt their slide down the table at Selhurst Park.
Palace defender Gary Cahill is nursing a hamstring problem and is unlikely to be passed fit in time to feature, which means Scott Dann and Cheikhou Kouyate are set to resume their partnership at centre-back. Wayne Hennessey, Nathan Ferguson, Connor Wickham and Martin Kelly are long-term absentees, while Mamadou Sakho is also sidelined.
Leicester will have to make do without Ricardo Pereira, who will not return to action for another two weeks at least. Caglar Soyuncu and Cengiz Under will both be assessed ahead of kick-off, although neither player is likely to start. Rodgers has switched between three- and four-man backlines throughout the campaign so far, but is likely to opt for a 4-2-3-1 formation here.
