Burnley boss Sean Dyche feels it is “probable” one of his three England-capped goalkeepers will leave the club this summer if the right deal emerges.
Joe Hart – dropped by Dyche midway through this season, with Tom Heaton coming into the team – has this week been linked with Sky Bet Championship title-winners Norwich.
Dyche, who also has Nick Pope in his squad, was asked on Friday if he anticipated one of the trio departing if the move was suitable for the player and the Clarets.
And he said: “I think it’s probable but not definite.”
Also this week it has been reported Burnley are interested in defender Gary Cahill, who is set to leave Chelsea in the summer as his contract comes to an end.
When that was put to Dyche, he said: “It’s already started again. It always does.
“It’s ongoing for us – we look at quality players, we try to keep an eye on the market, we try to find the right ones who fit us as a team and the business model of course, and the right age, the right pay scales.
“It’s not easy and it narrows down your market quite significantly when you try to tick every box and that is what we attempt to do here.
“That’s what the chairman wants, the board want. It’s very difficult.”
Cahill, who last August announced he was taking a “step back” from England duty, was on loan at Burnley from Aston Villa in 2004-05.
Dyche, speaking ahead of Sunday’s Premier League home clash with Arsenal, also confirmed a 12-month extension to full-back Phil Bardsley’s contract has been triggered to keep him at Turf Moor next term.
And he said there will be talks with veteran striker Peter Crouch at the end of the season when his short-term deal with the club finishes.
Burnley’s concluding fixture of 2018-19 sees them host Arsenal three days on from the Gunners reaching the Europa League final, in which they will face Chelsea.
The Gunners are fifth, looking certain to miss out on a top-four spot, and on a four-match winless run in the Premier League.
Dyche’s men are 15th, with a chance of finishing one place higher, and have lost each of their last two matches having taken 10 points from the four before that.
Burnley have made an impressive turnaround this season, accruing just 12 points from their first 19 games, then 28 since.
“I think it’s impossible to not end on a positive note because of what’s happened in the second half of the season,” Dyche said.
“We want to deliver a performance and we want to beat a top side, again. It’s not that easy, but that’s what we want to do.”
Arsenal are the only ‘big six’ club Burnley are yet to register a Premier League win against since they were first promoted to the division in 2009.
