Inter striker Icardi targets 100 goals for club
Ahead of Sunday's Serie A derby at home to AC Milan, Inter captain Mauro Icardi revealed he has set a goals target for his time at San Siro.
Mauro Icardi is aiming to reach 100 goals for Inter as he accepts becoming the club's all-time top goalscorer is an unlikely target.
The great Giuseppe Meazza is Inter's record goalscorer with 243 but Icardi, who has made a lightning start to the new campaign, is closing in on three figures.
After scoring six goals in seven Serie A appearances this season, Inter captain Icardi now stands on 84 goals for the club in all competitions and reaching the century milestone is in his sights.
"I want to reach 100 goals in an Inter jersey, even if becoming the club's all-time top scorer would be frankly difficult to achieve," Icardi told reporters ahead of Sunday's derby against AC Milan at San Siro, which bears Meazza's name.
"I am very happy to be in the top 10 scorers for this club, but it's a long way off the top. In any case, my aim is to score many more goals for Inter.
"I work every day to improve and the staff here really help me. I try to get better every day and never stop. Every player can always improve, no matter his age or experience. I am strongest inside the penalty area, but I do want to improve my overall game. My work has only just begun."
