Juventus to renew Alonso interest
Juventus will reignite their interest in Liverpool midfielder Xabi Alonso in the summer, according to agent Ernesto Bronzetti. The Old Lady attempted to sign the Spanish international last summer, failing to match Rafael Benitez’s asking price for the player, believed to be in the region of £16 million.
And the 27-year-old has gone on to play an influential part in the Merseysiders' Premier League title bid this season, making 41 appearances in all competitions and scoring five times, including the goal that ended Chelsea's 86 league game unbeaten run at Stamford Bridge.
Juventus have been alerted by Benitez’s admission that he he will have to offload players at the end of the season in order to recruit the players needed for another crack at Premier League and Champions League glory in 2009/10.
And Bronzetti has revealed he will be attempting to lure the Euro 2008 winner to Turin in the summer.
"I would try to bring in Alonso for the Juventus central midfield," he said.
"There was a long chase last summer for his signature, of course, so it is a road we know.
“Pairing him with Momo Sissoko would be a title-winning midfield. The problem is that it would be very hard and expensive to take such an important player away from Liverpool."
