Both these promoted clubs marked their Premier League returns with a loss, but Leeds will feel much more positive about the season ahead than Fulham.
Marcelo Bielsa’s side were beaten 4-3 by Liverpool in a thrilling contest at Anfield that was only settled by a Mohamed Salah penalty late on.
The reigning champions ultimately did enough to get off to a winning start, but there were plenty of positives for Leeds to take. Indeed, not many teams have given Liverpool such a scare at Anfield in recent years.
Whatever happens to the Whites this season - and Bielsa’s track record suggests nothing can be ruled out - it will certainly be worth watching.
A home game against Fulham is about as different to a trip to Liverpool as is possible, with Leeds set to dominate possession on Saturday afternoon.
Bielsa’s side won this fixture 3-0 in the Championship back in June and a similar outcome wouldn’t come as a surprise this weekend.
Fulham were undone by the same scoreline when they hosted Arsenal last Saturday. Scott Parker’s side had some promising moments early on but were ultimately outclassed by the visitors to Craven Cottage.
There’s no shame in losing comfortably to a much wealthier team, but the manner of the defeat laid bare the size of the task confronting Fulham this season.
The Cottagers will at least be boosted by the probable return to the starting line-up of Alexander Mitrovic, who struck 26 goals in the Championship last season.
Franck Zambo Anguissa could also be drafted into the XI if Parker opts for a 4-3-3 formation.
Rodrigo Moreno will be hoping to make his first Premier League start following his big-money move from Valencia, but a goal at Anfield might be enough to keep Patrick Bamford in the team.
Elsewhere, Liam Cooper should be back from injury in time to partner Robin Koch at centre-back.
