Lewandowski wants Muller as support striker
Robert Lewandowski believes Thomas Muller needs to play in a central role at Bayern Munich in order to find his best form.
Bayern Munich striker Robert Lewandowski feels Thomas Muller's best position is as a support striker behind him.
Former Bayern star Lothar Matthaus suggested this week that Carlo Ancelotti has no room for the Germany international in his ideal formation following an underwhelming start to the season, sparking a debate over whether Muller still has a role to play at the Allianz Arena.
Ancelotti was quick to stress Muller will get plenty of playing time after the winter break, though, and Lewandowski hopes the versatile attacker will be playing right behind him.
"It is better for Thomas is he plays right behind me in the middle of the pitch," Lewandowski was quoted as saying by TZ.
"He has more room to find space in the middle.
"If I move to the left, Thomas immediately moves to the right."
Muller has netted just once in 13 Bundesliga appearances this campaign, although he scored two more in six Champions League outings.
