Liverpool are leading the race to sign Borussia Dortmund wonderkid Youssoufa Moukoko, according to reports.

After a disappointing start to the season, the Reds look set to embark upon a squad rebuild over the next few transfer windows, with Jurgen Klopp's squad now one of the oldest in the Premier League.

Liverpool have missed Sadio Mane following his move to Bayern Munich, while Darwin Nunez has had a mixed first few months at Anfield.

And with Roberto Firmino out of contract at the end of the campaign, it is no surprise that Liverpool have begun to look towards the next generation of attacking talents in Europe.

According to the Spanish publication Sport, the Reds are currently leading the race to sign the highly-rated Moukoko, who made his Dortmund debut one day after turning 16.

The Cameroon-born Germany Under-21 international has scored four goals in 10 Bundesliga appearances for BVB so far this season.

Liverpool are one of several major clubs keeping close tabs on the 17-year-old, who is also being watched by Real Madrid, Barcelona and PSG.

Moukoko is set to become a free agent next summer, and although Dortmund are hoping to tie him down to a new deal, the power lies in the hands of the teenager and his representatives.

The striker will be keeping his options open for now, but Liverpool appear to be in pole position to sign him as things stand.

Klopp's side will book their place in the knockout stage of the Champions League if they avoid defeat by Ajax on Wednesday.

The Reds will then return to Premier League action on Saturday night, as they look to bounce back from a 1-0 defeat by Nottingham Forest last time out.

Leeds, whose manager Jesse Marsch is under increasing pressure after a poor run of results, will be the visitors to Anfield at the weekend.

Liverpool have reportedly joined the race to sign Crystal Palace talisman Wilfried Zaha, who is out of contract at the end of the season.

It has been suggested that there might be a rift between Jurgen Klopp and Liverpool's club captain Jordan Henderson, amid the club's difficult start to the campaign.

And Klopp is keen to bolster his midfield ranks in the next two transfer windows, with Benfica star Florentino Luis among the Reds' top targets.
