Liverpool reports: Reds eyeing January swoop for Napoli star Victor Osimhen
Liverpool spent big to add Darwin Nunez to their attack during the last transfer window – could they do so again in January...?
Liverpool want to sign Napoli striker Victor Osimhen – and are prepared to battle arch-rivals Manchester United for the Nigerian's services, according to reports.
Osimhen is enjoying a fine season for Luciano Spalletti's side, who have set an electric pace in Serie A and won 16 of 19 games in all competitions (their sole defeat so far this term came against Liverpool).
The 23-year-old has scored nine goals in 13 appearances, taking him to 37 in 75 overall since joining the Partenopei from Lille three years ago.
Per Gazzetta dello Sport (via Goal), Liverpool are interested in bringing Osimhen – who's bagged 15 goals in 22 caps for Nigeria – to Anfield, with arch-rivals United also keen.
And with the Reds' owners, Fenway Sports Group (FSG), putting the club up for sale earlier this week, a January spending spree could potentially be on the cards.
Liverpool wasted no time in replacing outgoing Sadio Mane with club-record acquisition Darwin Nunez this summer, but Jurgen Klopp and co. could still do with upgrading further in attack.
And Osimhen arguably profiles more similarly to Mane, with his immense work rate – aided by superb pace – ostensibly making him a strong fit for Klopp's energy-sapping system.

Osimhen – who started out with Wolfsburg in the Bundesliga – is currently valued by Transfermarkt at around £61m, which is what Napoli paid to make him their record signing.
He's come up against Liverpool twice in this season's Champions League, including the 4-0 thrashing of the Reds in Naples (when he saw his penalty saved by Alisson).

The FSG era at Liverpool is drawing to a close, but John W. Henry, Tom Werner and co. may have one more gift lined up before they sell up: they're said to be winning the race to sign Borussia Dortmund and England star Jude Bellingham.
Bellingham doesn't appear to be the Reds' only midfield target, though: Atletico Madrid's Marcos Llorente is said to be on their radar too, with Atleti potentially looking to offload the Spain international.
Meanwhile, one of Osimhen's Napoli teammates – Georgian wing sensation Khvicha Kvaratskhelia – has also been linked with a move to Anfield.
