Mainz come from behind to down Koln

Mainz fought back from behind to beat fellow Bundesliga strugglers Cologne 3-1 at the Opel Arena.

Heading into the game on the back of last week’s 3-0 win over Paderborn, the visitors seized the lead in the 14th minute when Simon Terodde fired home.

But the home side pulled themselves level seven minutes later when Jean-Paul Boetius beat Koln goalkeeper Timo Horn from the centre of the box.

Horn saved superbly to deny Aaron Martin and Mainz were forced to wait until just before the half-hour mark to take the lead when Robin Quaison hit a superb effort from outside the box.

Mainz survived a period of Cologne pressure and finally wrapped up their victory eight minutes from time when Levin Oztunali scored his side’s third goal from close range.

FourFourTwo Staff

FourFourTwo was launched in 1994 on the back of a World Cup that England hadn’t even qualified for. It was an act of madness… but it somehow worked out. Our mission is to offer our intelligent, international audience access to the game’s biggest names, insightful analysis... and a bit of a giggle. We unashamedly love this game and we hope that our coverage reflects that.
