Manchester United put in arguably their best performance of the season to end Manchester City’s winning run last weekend, but they face a tricky test against European hopefuls West Ham on Sunday.
Any hopes of the Premier League title returning to Old Trafford look farfetched at this stage despite United’s derby win, as City are 14 points clear of their rivals at the summit of the standings.
But Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side will at least want to nail down the runners-up spot, with a tight-knit group breathing down their neck.
The Foxes are one point behind and Chelsea are four points back, while West Ham in fifth can cut the gap to United to just three points with a win in Manchester.
Champions League qualification is therefore not a foregone conclusion, and United had the extra exertion of a 1-1 Europa League draw with AC Milan on Thursday.
It was their fourth draw in the last five games, the 2-0 win over City being the exception.
David Moyes’ side are on a good run of form as the Hammers boss prepares to face his former side, winning three of their last four league games.
But their last clash with the Red Devils went badly, as they lost 3-1 at the London Stadium in December, with goals from Paul Pogba, Mason Greenwood and Marcus Rashford cancelling out Tomas Soucek’s opener.
