Mrs Rafa: There's no place like Liverpool
Liverpool manager Rafa Benitez's wife has revealed that her family are so happy on Merseyside that it now feels like more of a home than their native Spain.
In a rare interview with her husband on, local radio station, City Talk 105.9, Montse Benitez added that youngest daughter Agata has even developed a Scouse accent, asking for ‘butties’ after school.
The pair, who rarely speak in public together, were revealing to interviewer Steve Hothersall what life is like away from the game and how Rafa relaxes in between games.
But it was his better half providing the notable one-liners, revealing Rafa was planning tactics from the an early age, even during their first dinner date.
Mrs Benitez, a law lecturer in Valencia before the family departed for England said [with a Spanish accent seasoned with a pinch of Scouse] that she felt England was now more of a home to her than Spain, and that she often longs to return to her Liverpool abode during visits to family and friends in her native country.
“People have been so warm to us and we really feel we have found the right place to bring our children up and enjoy life,” she said.
“My friends and family are here and we love the club and the area. We made the decision to move to Liverpool over a weekend and we really feel that this is where we belong now.”
