My loan to Injury FC has officially ended - Mendy returns for Man City

Benjamin Mendy has made his long-awaited return from injury for Manchester City, announcing his comeback in typically humorous fashion on social media.

Mendy has been sidelined since rupturing the anterior cruciate ligament in his right knee during September's Premier League clash with Crystal Palace.

The France international returned to training last month and made the first appearance of his recovery playing for City's Academy side in a 1-1 derby draw against rivals Manchester United on Friday.

Mendy played the opening 45 minutes and was soon showing off his progress on Twitter, where he has become something of a celebrity during his injury layoff.

"My loan to Injury FC has officially ended today," Mendy wrote. "And I'm back playing for Man City baby!! So happy.

"Thanks to all the staff and players that helped me through this looong time, and of course everyone in here #SharkTeam we back!!!

"PS I will keep my role as social media entertainer don't worry."

Responding to a fan who asked whether Mendy would soon be scoring bicycle kicks, the defender added: "Cristiano [Ronaldo] better watch out with my bionic leg."

Pep Guardiola, who has used Fabian Delph, Danilo and Oleksandr Zinchenko at left-back in Mendy's absence, has not given any timescale for when the 23-year-old could be ready to return to the senior side.
