Rossi unaware of summer interest
Villarreal striker Giuseppe Rossi insists he was unaware of reports linking him with a move away from Spain this summer until he read them in a newspaper. The American-born Italian international made just five league appearances for Manchester United before moving to Spain in 2007, where he has been a sensation in la Liga, bagging 24 goals in 63 league outings.
His impressive form - that included scoring for Italy in the Confederations Cup in June - led to speculation tipping him to join either Milan or Juventus, while Manchester United and Manchester City were thought to be interested in bringing the forward back to England.
However, a move failed to materialise, despite the Yellow Submarine's acquisition of Brazilian starlet Nilmar for a club record fee.
And Rossi has since revealed that his agent had not informed him of any interest in his services, and that he first heard about Juventus' apparent attraction in a newspaper.
"All that I am thinking about is Villarreal," he told TMW.
"My agent did not tell me anything about Juventus and how close I was to transferring there, as he wanted to leave me in peace.
"I read about it in a newspaper."
