Sporting Gijon relegated from La Liga despite win
Only a win would suffice for Sporting and they achieved that, defeating hosts Eibar 1-0, but they still dropped down to Spain's second tier.

It was a sad day for lowly Sporting Gijon, who were unable to avoid relegation from La Liga on Sunday.
Only a win would suffice for Sporting and they achieved that, defeating hosts Eibar 1-0, but they still dropped down to Spain's second tier.
While Burgui's 32nd-minute goal at Estadio Municipal de Ipurua gave Sporting maximum points in the penultimate round of the season, Deportivo La Coruna earned a draw with Villarreal.
That draw sees Deportivo sitting three points clear of 18th-placed Sporting and with a superior head-to-head record means they cannot be caught on the final day of the campaign.
After Sporting's two-year stay in La Liga was officially ended, head coach Rubi said: "Sporting will soon be back to Primera."
Sporting close out the 2016-17 season at home to Real Betis on Saturday.
