West Ham will be looking to make it beyond the third round of the FA Cup for the sixth time in seven seasons when they face Stockport on Monday.
David Moyes’ men ground out a 1-0 victory over Everton last time out to keep their place in the top half of the table. Some tipped the Hammers for relegation this term, and while there is still a long way to go before the final table is decided, it is fair to say they have exceeded many people’s expectations so far.
Moyes has done an excellent job, making West Ham tougher to play against and more efficient in attack. Stockport are pushing for promotion to League Two this season, as they attempt to return to the Football League after dropping out of it in 2010. County began their journey in this season’s FA Cup in the fourth qualifying round, and have beaten Chesterfield, Rochdale and Yeovil to make it this far. The furthest Stockport have ever gone in the FA Cup is the fifth round, a stage they graced in 1934/35, 1949/50 and 2000/01.
West Ham will again have to make do with Arthur Masuaku and Ryan Fredericks, while Lukasz Fabianski is expected to miss out with a thigh injury.
Moyes will be tempted to shuffle his pack ahead of Saturday’s clash with Burnley, with Andriy Yarmolenko, Ben Johnson, Robert Snodgrass, Issa Diop and Mark Noble among those in contention for a place in the starting XI. Michail Antonio could also be selected from the first whistle after coming off the bench in the victory over Everton last time out.
